Doing PCIT
|
In traditional in-person Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), I would stand behind mirrored glass and coach you through a blue tooth device while you played with your child in a separate room. With virtual PCIT on-line, your computer (or other device) acts like the mirrored glass. After beginning your video session with a check-in, I hide my screen and you set up your computer, tablet, or phone where the camera can see your play area. You wear ear buds so only you are hearing what I'm saying.

About
|
Our sessions are a safe place where you can share your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. The first session usually focuses on a clinical interview, where we discuss your goals and expectations for treatment, complete basic policy and procedure forms, gather information about you and your needs, and address any questions as they arise. Sessions are typically scheduled for 45-50 minutes, and although most people prefer to attend once a week, a modified schedule (more or less frequently) can be established to meet your needs.
It is my intention to provide services that will assist you and your family in reaching your goals. Based on the information you provide and the specifics of your situation, I will make treatment recommendations, as she views therapists and clients as partners in the therapeutic process. I will also regularly provide feedback regarding treatment progress and invite your participation in the discussion. Some issues are more complex than others, and therefore may require more time in treatment. Due to the varying nature and severity of problems as well as the individuality of each client, it is not possible to predict the length of your therapy or to guarantee a specific outcome or result. If it is determined that you are not benefiting from treatment, either you or I may initiate a discussion of your treatment alternatives. Treatment alternatives may include, among other possibilities, referral, changing your treatment plan, or terminating your therapy. |
Participation
|
Without full participation (consistent attendance at weekly sessions, follow through with therapeutic recommendations, and practice of the techniques outside of sessions), problems are not likely to improve. Additionally, anytime a person participates in mental health treatment, it is possible for symptoms to temporarily get worse before they get better. Treatment requires change on many levels and it is common for family members to experience an adjustment period. It is expected that with consistent attendance and participation, symptoms will improve.

Telephone and email contact between sessions is accepted. However, I will attempt to keep those conversations brief due to the understanding that important issues are better addressed within regularly scheduled sessions. You may leave a message for me at any time on my confidential voicemail. Non-urgent phone calls are returned within 1-2 business days. In the event of a medical or mental health emergency, or any situation involving a threat to your safety or the safety of others, please call 911 to request emergency assistance.
